*"Nellie Bly" is the nom de plume of Elizabeth Cochrane
(1867-1922), who pioneered investigative journalism by often
going under cover to write about poverty, housing and labor
conditions, and feigned insanity to get into New York's insane
asylum at Blackwell's Island. She became a foreign
correspondent; and was famous for circling the globe in 72
days, leaving New York on November 14, 1889.
